Which burnout quiz fits your life?

Burnout doesn't look the same in a knowledge worker as it does in a full-time carer, a parent of a two-year-old, an autistic adult masking through the working day, or a teacher on the last week of term. The underlying model is the same — exhaustion, mental distance, cognitive strain, emotional strain — but the everyday signs are different, so a good quiz has to be framed for the life you're actually living.

Every quiz below uses the same clinical Burnout Assessment Tool (BAT) engine and produces the same score, stage, and next-steps output. The differences are in the framing, examples, and follow-up guidance. Pick the one that fits — or take the general burnout test if you're not sure.

    What the quiz measures

The quizzes are based on the four pillars of the Burnout Assessment Tool (BAT): exhaustion, mental distancing, cognitive impairment, and emotional impairment. Each pillar has a set of validated questions, so your score isn't just a vague "stress level" — it pinpoints where burnout is showing up most strongly for you.

At the end you'll see a total score, a stage (not burned out, early signs, mild, moderate, or high risk), and a short breakdown of each pillar. If your score is high, you'll also get guidance on whether self-care is enough or whether speaking to a GP or therapist is the safer next step.

    How to use your result

A burnout quiz is best used as a snapshot, not a final diagnosis. If your score is low, treat it as a warning to keep an eye on your workload and recovery time. If it's moderate, it's worth looking at the specific pillar that scored highest and trying one or two targeted changes. If it's high, treat recovery as a priority and consider professional support — especially if you notice sleep problems, dread, or a sense of hopelessness.

The quiz takes about two minutes, doesn't require an account, and doesn't store your answers unless you explicitly choose to save your results. You can retake it whenever you want to track how your score changes after cutting back, changing roles, or starting support.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is this a medical diagnosis?
No. The quiz is a psychoeducational self-check based on the Burnout Assessment Tool. It can help you recognise patterns and decide whether to seek professional support, but it does not diagnose any condition.
Can I take the quiz for someone else?
The quiz is designed for personal reflection. If you're worried about someone else, see our guide on how to help someone with burnout for practical ways to support them.
What's the difference between the quizzes?
The scoring engine and pillars are identical. The framing, examples, and follow-up tips are tailored to work, caregiving, parenting, autism, or teaching so the result feels relevant to your daily life.
    What if I score high?
A high score is a signal to take burnout seriously. Start with the basics — sleep, boundaries, and workload reduction where possible — and read our burnout recovery guide for a structured plan. If symptoms are severe, speak to a GP or therapist.
