About the therapist
Billy Smith — BACP-registered psychotherapist
Specialising in burnout recovery, high-functioning burnout, and nervous-system regulation
I'm Billy Smith, a psychotherapist registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I work with people who are quietly running on empty — the high-functioning, the caregivers, the ones who "should" be fine and aren't.
I came to this work after my own burnout — I know what it's like to keep functioning on the outside while running on empty inside. That experience is why everything here starts with what actually helps, not the polished version of recovery.
Burnout Recovery Help is where I put the tools and writing I wish more of my clients had access to before they reached me. The free Burnout Tracker is built on the clinical Burnout Assessment Tool (BAT) developed at KU Leuven — the same instrument used in occupational health research worldwide.
Credentials
- Registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)

What I write about
Everything on this site is written or clinically reviewed by me. The focus is practical, evidence-informed, and honest about what helps at each stage of burnout — from early recognition, through the stages of burnout, to how long burnout actually lasts.
